                            The Immortal Report

This report covers the 18th of October through the 31st.

Admin:

Zandy did some archiving/unarchiving, issued some warnings, dealt with some
appeals, and helped with Halloween stuff.

Charity did a bunch of reimburses, archives, and unarchived. She fixed some
problems people were having with bugs and did a pkenable.

Chocorua did some warning/punishing, did some archiving/unarchiving and
restrings. He also updated some help files.

Building

Sandra read through Greece to ready it for install, put in a teacher for
quickdraw, fixed stuff, did some skill reimbursals. Adjusted xp on some mobs
in Pittsburgh.

Charity updated the web docs for builders to use and started analyzing all
the xpgame entries. She also added a teacher for lullaby and fixed the draw
eacher.

Cheyla worked on both 1802 and 1925 Alaska, but she's mostly just waiting on
comments from testers. She also did online stuff, including strings,
archives, and answering questions.

Croaker: polished Greece and worked on Hades.

LadyAce worked on Klein mobs and a few rooms.

Rusalka is waiting on getting notes from testers, and is working on putting
in monologues and dialogues into the game.

Zandy went through updating bits of Anasazi based on comments from testers.

Coder:

Ea! did lots of discussions/design work for skill trees with Rufus, forge,
runes, gems, warrior etc. He fixed a bug with afk timestamps only showing up
in imm messages, moved the liquid definitions out of the code to make them
easier to change, and added in code to help with the spam reimb. He also did
a bit more work on the mud machine, polishing off the last of his to-do
list.

Chocorua kept up with the code changes and continued to plan out his new
areainfo code.

Huginn fixed the "armor spell bug" and changed attributes so that people
under level 10 can see whether their stats are changing.

Rufus did a ton of work on runery, rewrote channels, fixed crashing bugs,
wrote the new forge skill, and wrote the quickdraw skill.

PR

tinyplot, ran a Q & A, put together an LT, and did the standard online stuff
-- skill reimbs, descriptions, pkenables, strings, and archives.

Dominic strung a few items and dealt with a lot of RL stress and work.

Natalia helped with Halloween activities, worked on her tinyplot, talked to
people about changes, and did strangs and restrings.

Rusalka planned and ran a Samhain tinyplot with Kae, helped with Ptah's
storytelling event. She did online stuff, strings, questions, etc.

Stile did online stuff.

Colors traditionally are a very powerful tool of divination and magic. They
affect our subsconscious as well - there is a reason movie villains wear
black, the hero white, and the enchanting little girl pink. To know your
colors can help you decide what colors for your character to wear his or
her strings in - and hence, what firsthand impression to give others who
look at her or him. You can also use them in emotes connected with
spellcasting, with quite some success. If I didn't hate colors in mudding
myself, I'd alias all my spells with colored emotes!

Let's let color explain itself in this little story which has wandered all
over the net, but is said to stem from a Native American legend sometime in
the past.

Once upon a time the colors of the world started to quarrel: All claimed
that they were the best, the most importannt, the most useful, the
favorite. Green said, "Clearly I am the most important. I am the sign of
life and of hope. I was chosen for grass, leaves, trees -- without me, all
animals would die. Look out over the countryside, and you will see that I
am in the majority."

Blue interrupted: "You only think about the Earth, but consider the sky and
the sea. It is the water that is the basis of life and drawn up by the
clouds from the deep sea. The sky gives space and peace and serenity.
Without my peace, you would all be nothing."

Yellow chuckled: "You are all so serious. I bring laughter, gaiety, and
warmth to the world. The sun is yellow, the moon is yellow, the stars are
yellow. Every time you look at a sunflower, the whole world starts to
smile. Without me, there would be no fun."

Orange started next to blow her temper. "I am the color of health and
strength. I may be scarce but I am precious, for I serve the needs of human
life. I carry the most important vitamins. Think of carrots, pumpkins,
oranges, mangos, and pawpaws. I don't hang around all the time, but when I
fill the sky at sunrise or sunset, my beauty is so striking that no one gives
another thought to any of you."

Red could stand it no longer. He shouted out: "I am the ruler of all of you!
I am blood! Life's blood! I am the color of danger and of bravery! I am
willing to fight for a cause. I bring fire to the blood! I am the color of
passion and of love, the red rose, the poppy and the pointsettia. Without
me, the earth would be as empty as the moon!"

Purple rose up to his full height. He was very tall and spoke with great
pomp: "I am the color of royalty and power. Kings, chiefs, and bishops have
always chosen me for I am a sign of authority and wisdom. People do not
question me, they listen and obey."

Finally, Indigo spoke, much more quietly than all the others, but with just
as much determination: "Think of me. I am the color of silence. You hardly
notice me, but without me you all become superficial. I represent thought and
reflection, twilight and deep water. You need me for balance and contrast,
for prayer and inner peace."

And so all the colors went on boasting and quarreling, each convinced of
their own superiority. Soon, their quarreling became louder and louder.
Suddenly there was a startling flash of bright lightning! Thunder rolled and
boomed! Rain started to pour down relentlessly. The colors crouched down in
fear, drawing close to one another for comfort. In the midst of the clamor,
Rain began to speak: "You foolish colors, fighting amongst yourselves, each
trying to dominate the rest. Don't you know that you were each made for a
special purpose, unique and different? Join hands with one another and come
to me."

Doing as they were told, the colors united and joined hands. The rain
continued: "From now on, when it rains, each of you will stretch across the
sky in a great bow of colors, as a reminder that you all can live in peace.
The rainbow is a sign of hope for tomorrow."

And so, whenever a good rain washes the world, and a rainbow appears in the
sky, let us remember to appreciate one another.

                             Into the Wilderness

The sun had just dropped below the treetops and merely a few faint rays
filtered through the foliage to strike the ground next to Parry. Almost like
molten gold, or the flowing tresses of his sweet... Oh Jolie! Parry quickly
turned his thoughts away from his love and went back to setting up camp for
the night. He wasn't equipped for a long stay outdoors, he knew, but he would
manage a few days. His ill-fitting tunic and breeches were gifts from an old
widow he had been forced to ask for help, and he hoped the small magic he had
taught her in return would make the winter easier for her.

Magic, yes, his magic would sustain him for some time, as long as he didn't
attempt any major sorcery. Parry knew the sorcerer that had assisted the
Albigensian crusade would still be looking for him, but Parry had since then
learned a small shielding technique that would hopefully make any small
spells on his part unnoticeable.

He kept himself occupied for a time, while the sky darkened and the first
stars became visible in the east. The image of his murdered wife threatened
to surface in his mind, but he mesmerized himself and locked the memories
firmly away. He would deal with the grief later.

Finally he was satisfied. He had fashioned a small shelter from leaves and
dead branches that could quickly be brought back into a natural disarray, and
a bedding of moss and more leaves. He gathered a few dry sticks and lit them
with a minor spell, taking great care not to make any smoke, then cast
another one, focusing on the fire to enhance the heat and slow down the wood
consumption. Hopefully neither spell would be noticed, for they were both
minor and drew on the inherent potential of the wood, and he had worked under
the cloak of his protection technique. He lay down inside the shelter and
covered himself with leaves. Sleep would otherwise be slow tonight, so he put
himself in a trance and banished consciousness.

Parry woke early, feeling refreshed, and disassembled his shelter, trying to
erase all traces of his passage as best he could, burying the ashes from his
fire. He concentrated briefly and managed to sense the location of some roots
and berries he knew to be edible, thus taking the edge of his hunger. This
too, was very slight magic, mostly drawing on the latent abilities most
people had. His father the sorcerer had taught him much that would help him
survive, if he could only stay clear of his pursuit. Surveying the area, he
convinced himself it would not be immediately obvious someone had camped here
and set off through the forest, heading north away from his home village. He
dared not change into a horse again, for the sorcerer aiding the crusaders
had located Parry with pinpoint precision, and it was best to remain
unnoticed as long as he could. He had nowhere to go in any case, so speed was
of little importance.

                            A Darkness Revitalized

The beating of tribal drums echo through the thickly humid night air,
reverberating through the jungle and nearby plantation house. A group of dark
skinned slaves dance around a blazing bonfire, lead by a emanciated old man.
The houngan goes forward, dipping his fingers into an earthern pot. Taking
his bloodied fingers out, he scrawls a circle around the fire and resumes the
dance. The sickly white paint on his face stands out sharply in the glow of
the fire as the chanting begins...

....Down in the depths of Hell, the fires blaze even hotter than the one in
the mortal realm. There isnt any dancing or paint, and certainly no chanting.
In fact, it looks more like a resort. A tall, blue haired man rests back on a
obsidian lounge chair, tall red drink in one hand, and voluptuous red
succubus in the other. "So after we conquered Kleinstadt, we decided to move
onto.." He regales the audience gathered around him, the lesser imps and a
few demons huddled around in complete attention "They didnt resist much, and
those who did we sent screaming. Heh, fun all aroun.. what the..?" the man
starts fading away, then disappers completely, his clothes collapsing onto
the chair with the lack of support his body gave.

Back in the mortal realms, the final chant is completed. The emanciated
houngan throws a pouch onto the fire, which explodes in a large blaze.
Darkness quickly fills in the void, leaving the dancers standing stock still
in awed silence.

A red glowing appears where the fire once was, and the blue haired man can be
seen, stark naked. He glances around furiously at the assembled and screams
at them futilely "What have you DONE?! I was FINALLY starting to enjoy things
down there, idiots!" The houngan steps forward, meek despite the power of his
circle "We summon you, you kill plantation owner," the man states, making the
sign against the evil eye just in case.

Snorting in derision, the naked man steps forward to the houngan, ignoring
the circle of blood completely, despite a brief flash of red. Laughing as the
circle evaporates, the man reaches upward, clenching his hand into a fist
"Stupid old man, dont screw with a Valthalas." Opening his fist and bringing
it around in a sweeping arc, dark red talons spring out, eviscerating the old
man in an eyeblink. Springing upon the soon to be corpse with a unearthly
speed, he sinks his teeth into the man's neck and drinks quickly.

The drumming stops, quickly replaced by the screaming of the slaughtered
tribe.

Walking into the night air, still naked except for a coat of blood,
glistening in the moonlight, the demon vampire laughs to himself "Idiots.
Didn't even get it right. Ah well, I just need someone to finish the spell
now."
