                       New LegendMUD Imm Application Process

In the last few months, the staff has been considering a variety of changes
to the way we deal with immortal application. The new process is outlined
below, and changes from the past system are marked with a *.

The application guides are currently under review. The "project" portion of
each application will still be required. If you want to get started before
the new guides are available, you can begin work on that portion.

New application guides will be available AFTER FEB. 1 for download from:
ftp://ftp.legendmud.org/pub/Docs/proposals

or on the web from:

http://www.legendmud.org/proposals.

Here's how the new process works:

Step 1) Applications
All of the applications for players are available for download from the
mud's ftp site: ftp.legendmud.org/pub/Docs/proposals. All applicants should
speak with the department head of the department they wish to apply into,
before applying. A proposal that might otherwise be acceptable may be
rejected because the project proposed is too similar to others already in the
works.

Step 2) Reading & Commenting
*The names of all applicants will be posted on the welcome board, and
players will be allowed to make private, thoughtful comments about them,
directly to the department heads via mudmail or email (not the public boards
or channels). All comments will be considered immortal-only information.

*If the imm staff has any questions for applicants, they will send them to
the head of the department he or she is applying to join. The department head
will conduct an interview. IMPORTANT: This means that applicants need to be
available either online or over email for the 2 weeks which follow the
application deadline.

Meanwhile, the entire imm staff will read and discuss your application.

Step 3) Voting
Next, the entire imm staff votes on applicants and chooses who to accept.
*In order to be accepted into the staff, your application must achieve a 2/3
positive majority via a weighted voting system. The system gives more weight
to each votes depending on the voter's title and department. For example, the
head of the building department gets more votes on an builder candidate than
an assistant PR does.

Step 4) Posting Results & Immortalizing
After all of the successful applicants have been determined, all candidates
will be notified of the results. All of the new imms will then be
immortalized and trained, and the list of new staff will be announced to the
general mud population.

                        On the Dangers of McDougan
                              by Adam Cuerden

If one will allow me to introduce myself, my name is Adam Cuerden, a bit of a
writer, but otherwise an ordinary fellow. Unfortunately, my life has grown
much more complex. On the other hand, though, perhaps this complexity is the
best thing that has ever happened to me. Perhaps I should explain.

About four years ago, I thought that extending my writing skills to this f
fair world might be quite enjoyable, and with shocking rapidity McDougan c
came full fledged. This perhaps is perfectly ordinary to you, but after a
while, he began to talk to me away from this fair world. It wasn't very
often, though, so I didn't worry, and as McDougan is quite a good fellow,
and whilst he's in control, as with my writing, my self disappears, it was
interesting to get to know this fellow who took over my body at times. This
state of affairs persisted until last June, when I learned of talpis, or
Buddhist thought creatures.

Talpis are creatures formed of thought, with a physical form. Now, by then I
had realized McDougan existed as a being completely separate to myself, and I
thought a physical form would be quite good for the lad. It took three
hours of concentration, but soon McDougan had, if not a physical form, a
definite presence, and a semi-visibility, though oddly th through the back of
my head.

Now, this is all fine and well. But as I said, I'm a bit of a writer as
well....

After McDougan, I thought I might as well have another of my characters, from
the story Nicked bads, as well... Thus Harold, a Cockney thief, came to live
with me as well. Soon after that, hey became quite able to summon
themselves, and I felt presences following me around waiting for me just to
call them by name and thus complete the summoning. Fortunately, all of them
good fellows from my novels.

There are now over twenty lads and lasses crowding my room. SO be warned
lads, quantum mechanics' multiverse concept tells us all stories are true,
and for certain lads, the barriers may be weaker than one might think. On the
other hand, it is the best thing that ever happened to me.

-Adam Cuerden

Description Change

Having grown tired of constantly being scratched by the thorns on her rose,
Amecia BloodRose has stripped all the thorns off and now twines the rose into
hair to keep it secure. And, since the term "shy" never seemed to quite fit
her, she's decided to present herself as the demure maiden her fiance sees
her as... So she'll now appear as:

A demure maiden adjusts the blood-red rose twined into her raven locks.

                             A Demanding Gargoyle

The small figure grumbled. Being grumpy was its natural state of mind, so
that did not worry Lord Marcel Alexander overly. He did raise an eyebrow in
annoyance when it took to loudly complaining that as an ornamental addition
to his house, it was supposed to sit and look ugly like gargoyles - well -
do. He shrugged. The gargoyle grumbled. 'Of course,' it said, 'for a raise
in pay, I can work that damned slate of yours into my foot piece.'

Lord Marcel nodded, his mind already elsewhere. The gargoyle carefully stood,
flexed its granite wings, and sat down upon the gray slate of stone that he
wanted it to sit on and guard from curious eyes. 'I'll want several
croissants for this,' it warned him. 'And at least one brie cheese every
week.'

The aristocrat blinked. 'Just what the hell do you think you are, a Disney
figure?'

The gargoyle scuffled its clawed feet around on the slate. 'Well... Okay,
I'll settle for muffins.'

The aristocrat just looked at it. 'Scones?' it suggested hopefully. He
nodded. The gargoyle settled its ugly self on the garden wall, slate of stone
tucked in neatly between its hind claws. Once again, the garden was silent -
with the exception of a slamming door and Lord Marcel's voice calling out to
his fiancee whether she wanted anything now he was going downtown to pick up
some scones anyway.

                             Jeff and the Dragons

A man and his wife traveled the world, searching for a home. The man left
her and went hunting for deer, while the wife prepared camp. While the man
was hunting, a dark and miserable dwarf appeared out of nowhere and struck
the man down without warning. In the sky, a white dragon saw what was
happening and flew down to help the man but he was too late, and the dwarf
ran back into the trees and disappeared. With much grief over the death he
could not prevent, the white dragon transformed itself into a man and took
the hunter's place as if he were alive.

Ten months later, in a town called London, the wife gave birth to a healthy
baby boy. This boy was faster, stronger, and more wise then the other
children in the town. He lived everyday as if it were his last.

When the boy reached the age of 17, his father the white dragon told the boy
of his origins and gave him the task of doing good and helping the people of
the world. To assist the boy in his journey, the father gave him a shield --
the shield of the holy dragons -- and a sword. The boy was known as Jeff, and
his mission is just beginning.
