I know that not everyone who receives the LT is able to log in regularly, but that you would all like to know about this. Dear Friends and Virtual Family, Having spent much of my adulthood and a significant portion of my teenage years, such as they were, on Legend, I feel like I owe (read: I want) to give a bit of warning regarding my personal affairs as they stand and are developing. As some of you know, five months ago, I was diagnosed with a highly aggressive form of glioblastoma multiforme. My positive outlook and can-do attitude (read: bullheaded stubbornness) have taken me far in the battle with this dreadful disease. Unfortunately, I am losing the war. I regret to say that, in an effort to spend a majority of my limited remaining time with my family and close friends, I will be resigning my position here. I want you all to know how much you have meant to me. While I regret the circumstances of my leaving, I am pleased with the time that I have spent here. I have learned much, and hopefully, I have left Legend a little better than I found it. I wish you all the best. Sincerely, Zack Karlsson In the face of such an immense tragedy, my own words can do nothing to express the profound loss that has been imposed upon us all, by a force outside of our control. The strongest lesson Satsu has taught me is that we each have immense power over our own lives, that we are never as weak as we may feel. It is an ultimate irony that this disaster shows us the limitations of that power. And still, we must go on. We who knew him, who loved him, who cried on his shoulder, who found comfort in his kindness -- his message is now our message. Though we cannot hope to carry his words with the same fire and vivacity that he could, we must try. Love to All, LadyAce ___ ___ \ |------------------------------------------------------------------| / /__| CALENDAR OF EVENTS |__\ '------------------------------------------------------------------' [All times are system time unless otherwise specified] Thursday, April 8, 7:00 pm - Q & A in the OOC Auditorium Saturday, April 10, 4:00 pm - Scavenger Hunt! 5:00 pm - Semi-Annual PKill Tournament! Thursday, April 15, 7:00 pm - Q & A in the OOC Auditorium ___ ___ \ |------------------------------------------------------------------| / /__| NEWS AND REPORTS |__\ '------------------------------------------------------------------' The Immortal Report (For the Week of March 17 - March 23) Kaige gathered bugs and typos, worked with Sandra to figure out and clean up the reappearing corpse problem, and talked with Ea! about how to solve it. ADMIN: Sandra pkenabled a couple of people, warned some people for multiplayers and others for harassment, and reimbursed some people for some nasty crashes. She also purged entirely too much eq lying around from the latest ownership bug. She also answered some questions regarding the pkill tourney and did various online stuff. Chocorua did a few online things, including explaining the restring process to a couple people. Flagg warned some people for harassment and some others for multiplaying. He discussed with a few people how to start a clan and helped reimb houses. Zandy pkill enabled a player, did some strings and re-strings, deleted a player at his request, unarchived 2 characters, and archived 1. LadyAce set a lot of people's xp down to 0, handed out a few warnings, and did a few pkenables. BUILDING: Rufus added some analytical tools for builders. Charity made some changes to mob acts, and added a few things to housing in Egypt. Cheyla added in a few acts and got a couple more mob descriptions done. Croaker finished up work on Greece (yay!) and is now looking for imm testers. Flagg finished the new recalltag system and tested it out. He also put in some fixes to Hell which some new acts made possible. Kae added several atmospheric items and mobs, smells in most rooms, look-ats for directions in most rooms. She also tweaked combat acts on a number of high level mobs and acts in general. She also got Crusades up and running on her testmud. Kheldar worked on his area and fixed a small typo in Romania. Rusalka reimbed the contents of several houses; answered player questions about ownership as best she could. She also helped Natalia get started with testing Pittsburgh, did more Pittsburgh and Crusades testing, and fixed a bug in Tudor. Sandra fixed some bugs and typos in Pittsburgh from Rusalka's first and second walk through and tested Crusades some more, sending the report to LadyAce. She also helped Kae with some little things in her area and started work on medieval France. Kaige improved the way the cave entrance in arabia works, made typo/bug fixes and did some docs corrections. CODING: Ea! worked on attempts to reduce the lag/crashability/potential losses of a crash of the mud. He also threw in a few small bug fixes. Snapper fixed bugs, did a few restrings and reimb'd some money for housing file corruption. Rufus did lots of investigating and bug fixes to improve stability. Kaige made some bugs fixes and added in random level announcements. PLAYER RELATIONS: LadyAce ran the irish casino game for St. Patrick's Day, ran Q & A, and put out an LT. She also talked about crashes, housing, and character generation with players. She also did a lot of strings, restrings, descriptions, and stacks of reimbs for the housing bug. Flagg had his first Casino experience, and did lots of strings, restrings, descriptions. Natalia did strings and restrings, helped do housing reimbursements, and talked with several people about things ranging from rules to complaints to new ideas. She also started playtesting Pittsburgh. Stile has been unable to be around the last few weeks because his computer and his local server have taken turns exploding. The time he has spent here he's answered questions about this and that, rules, housing, rent system, but mostly he's just been doing strings and restrings. {~}{~}{~}{~}{~}{~}{~}{~}{~} Prize Machine Contest Winners! The prize machine contest drew a lot of participation this year -- thank you to the 17 players who entered, most of them contributing 8-12 ideas each! This made the judging very difficult, but I hope that these selections will provide a nice mix for you to look forward to. The winning suggestions will be placed in the prize machine -- check the welcome board to find out when the update is put into the game. And the winners (in no particular order!) are: Ana short: a funky little monkey long: A cheeky monkey makes faces at you from atop $N's head. Marauder short: a wide-brimmed sombrero long: A rather large sombrero lies on the ground, waiting to be danced around. Drako and Glimer (both suggested this item or a variation on it) short: a multi-colored beanie with a propeller on top long: A small, brightly colored beanie whirrs merrily in the breeze. Adolfus short: a leopard skin pillbox hat long: A round-brimmed hat of yellow and black fur lies here on the ground. Warrl short: a pounding headache long: A blinding light shines in your eyes, followed by the pounding of a jackhammer. {~}{~}{~}{~}{~}{~}{~}{~}{~} Gladiators Sought To all pkillers or former pkillers: Do you have a character that you are thinking of perma'ing, deleting or otherwise retiring? There are some pebbles obstructing my feet, so I kick them out of the way irritably, sending them careening to land in their respective puddles, drowning. I can almost hear them scream. Oddly, this simple act makes me feel powerful, though they are just pebbles. I notice that my shoes are wearing thin, though I just bought new ones. I shall have to have a talk with that fat weaver. I hope she doesn't eat me. The day is beautifully dreary. Warm, comfy, and safe under my water-proof cloak, I can happily watch the torrents of water cascading from the heavens. The gentle pitter-patter of the droplets soothes me, removing all thoughts of the offending pebbles. I walk, not watching the path, mesmerized by the gleeful leaves drooping happily in the rain, their green upsides smiling with satisfaction as the life-giving water smites their surfaces. Involuntarily, I smile too. I look about, realizing that my path has brought me exactly where I wanted to go. I'd returned to the druid compound, unsatisfied with the knowledge previously imparted to me. So what if the druids said the world was indeed split into three parts? I knew that already. No, my goal is to find those three parts, maybe reunite them. It was kind of my doing that they got all split up in the first place. I know the druids knew more than they said, they're the keepers of lost lore. I intend to find out how much more. I meander in, noting how the weeds seem to encroach upon the cobblestone path with with amazing, almost visible, rapidity in this downpour. I walk to the great oak tree, avoiding Olympic-sized puddles. 'What's the Olympics?' I think. I gaze at the magnificent tree, as awestruck as when I first beheld its towering trunk, its gargantuan branches, its millions of glittering leaves. Entering the corridor via the front door, I ascend the stairway. The oak's lifeblood permeates the air, creating an overcoming feeling of immortal vitality. A door opens on my right and I peek in, seeing no one. I advance to the next such door, and peek in once more, pleasantly happy to find one of the druids. He affords me no more than a glance before diligently resuming his task. I watch for a moment as he crushes a few small yellow herbs and plunks them in a clear vial. He adds a bit of water, sniffs the vial. The druid grabs a handful of some purplish plant, probably nightshade, and rips off a leaf, tearing, crushing, and squelching the life out of it. This also he adds to the vial. I quickly jump back as the room explodes with a magnificently luminescent burst of light. When the residual smoke clears, he looks up, face newly begrimed with soot, ears nice and crispy. He looks delighted, eager to continue this apparently dangerous experiment, and I decide that I don't want worldly advice from this pyromaniac, however much of a druid may be. The next door seems more inviting. A bit of silver trim lines the doorframe, and a welcome mat greets me. Hrmm, homely. I step in, and a small, spectacled druid clad in a green cloak looks up at me. I study the man, and he studies me. It's hard to explain these things, but I think we form an unspoken bond. I clear my throat, hoping that he will break the silence with words before I do. However, he seems content to sit there and patiently watch me. I realize it must be me to break the serenity. I do. "Er. Um. I was kinda wondering if you could sorta help me with this task I have? Jeez, that was stuttering and stupid. I try to mentally compose myself, hard as that is with him sitting meditatively, not replying. Here goes. "You see, I kinda split the world into three parts... You remember the Shatterstorm, right? Of course you do. That was kinda...no mostly...my doing." Phew, it's out. Eek. "Not that I didn't have reason to do it," I hastily add. A bit of light glimmers in the depths of his eye. I take that as a sign of interest and run with it. "I was wondering if you could help me find the rest of the world... You know, so I could reunite it and all..." Finished with my plea, I sit back. It's his turn to say something. After a few minutes he disappoints me. "Orkney," he mumbles, and returns to his work. I sit there a little longer, him ignoring me all the while. Finally, I get up and storm out. Peeved and disgusted with that waste of time, no good druid and his no good tree and his no good compound, I leave, forgetting for the moment what will be the first of my greatest discoveries... Discoveries that will change my ideals of the world forever... I do give myself the right to decline requests if be needed, but doubt I will decline any. Do not forget that you may send in some questions that you would like my guests to answer.
